Infectious
Diseases Control Center for the North Eastern Region of China |
We
have plan to establish an infectious diseases control center in
the North Eastern Region of China (provinces of Liaoning,
Jilin, Heilongjiang, etc.). Our objectives are, on
the one hand, to encourage projects related to the surveillance,
prophylaxis and
control of infectious diseases including emerging
and re-emerging infections in that region, and to promote the health
of the residents,
and on the other hand, to also contribute to the
prevention and control of infectious diseases imported into Japan.
Description
of specific projects and organizations participating
in the activities
Targeted
infectious diseases
- The Center will be in charge of surveys
and actions
against parasitic diseases prevailing in
that region, notably those caused
by Taenia
solium and Cysticercus cellulosae.
- Then
the Center will timely deal with
bacterial and viral infections, which
are important diseases in that region,
and expand
the
scope of its activities to surveillance and control
measures.
Partnership and cooperation
with Chinese organizations
- We are soliciting the support
of universities,
research
organizations and medical institutions
in that region, with a focus on
Bai Qiu En Medical Division, Jilin University,
Harbin
School of Medicine and other Chinese
schools
of medicine.
- Attaching importance to the
collaboration between
Western European medicine and Chinese
medicine, we are encouraging joint
cooperative efforts with sectors engaged
in the
development and
application of Chinese herbal
remedies and in technology for traditional
Chinese
medicine, such as the Changchun College
of Chinese
Medicine in Changchun,
which is pursuing these activities.
Exchange of experts and
cooperation in the area
of training
- We have planned to exchange
experts and to
organize
research meetings in the latter half of
2003.
- We will organize training in Japan in specialized
areas for the education of young
foreign researchers and also provide training
on
biosafety.
Japanese cooperative and supporting organizations
- Secretariat: Biomedical Science Association (specially
designated nonprofit organization)
- As
far as the human resources and the
partners needed to achieve our projects are
concerned, we are in the process
of selecting and recruiting the necessary
organizations and people that will participate
in our activities.
